Colors trigger behavior and emotions, responses and body functions. Oh, is that all?
One of the first things we notice about something is it’s color. Unless, of course, there are no lights!
Color is light and we’ve mentioned that before but color is an intangible part of life that is vital to our health (our ability to sleep, properly digest, think clearly, have strong and healthy bones and teeth) and our moods (SAD, red causes alert response to danger or activity, and more).
Not only that but when purchasing a product, color is often the deciding factor determining whether or not to purchase a product. Color speaks volumes about us and TO us.
Here is a bit about some colors and how they influence behavior:
- Pink — unconditional love and healing
- Orange — Happy, social, energetic
- Blue — relaxation, vision, rest and independence
- Green — the color that is easiest on our physical eye, the color of nature, the color of healing love
- Yellow — warmth, nourishing and grounding, self-esteem, will, determination, thinking and good digestion (of food and issues)
- White — purity, clarity, spirituality, all colors of light
- Purple/Violet — spirituality, action and rest at the same time
- Black — protection, depth, mystery
- Red — passion, action, deep love (usually romantic)
- Metallic colors:
- Often interchangeable in our decor and changing with the trends, metallics offer shine, shimmer and depth, often advancing toward us to capture our attention, to show wealth, sophistication, and drama

- Brass and Copper — Copper has been used in cooking and water conduits for centuries because of it’s antibacterial, antimicrobial qualities. Brass and copper are more common materials that don’t often speak to the rarity of other metals but offer beautiful accent when paired with the right colors or materials. Brass, a mixture of metals, has been used to make beautiful bells, singing bowls, door hardware and more.
- Gold — associated with wealth, historically reserved for the wealthy or to signify those pieces that are most important, whether in art, in cathedrals or in jewelry. Gold is an especially powerful healing color, associated with the highest and best. Did you know that gold is really so rare “that all the gold ever mined from Earth would fill only 3 Olympic-sized swimming pools” Brian Cox, astrophysicist and create of Wonders of the Universe for Science Channel. I love this; Brian Cox explains the Universe with a mixture of science and loving awe.
