Color for 2012 and beyond: a Two-fold Quest

It’s time once again to live! Color is bringing back the eagerness and joy we need in our lives. More than just struggle to survive, we want to boldly thrive and that requires an intensity of focus and desire.

Easily coordinate with the color of wood flooring and fine wood furniture.
The 2-inch to 3-inch slat sizes create a look similar to that of a plantation shutter.
Blinds made with the 2 5/8-inch and 3-inch slat widths produce a smaller stack of slats at the top of your window when fully raised, than their 2-inch or 1-inch counterparts. This is because the wider the slat, the fewer slats necessary, resulting in a shorter stack of slats when fully raised.
Effectively control outside light by tilting the wood slats with a wand or cord while providing necessary privacy. A room can be darkened substantially when the slats are fully closed.
Simple to operate. Blinds can be pulled up to allow an open view to the outside. Please note that if you intend to pull your wood blinds up regularly, carefully consider the size of your window and the resulting weight of the blind. The larger a blind’s size the heavier the weight.
The heavier the weight, the greater the effort required to raise and lower the blind.
To reduce wear and tear on cords, fully open slats before pulling the blind up. This reduces friction and requires less effort.
Easy to maintain and very durable.

4 Tips for using Complex Colors

1. Test the colors in the environment and at the time of day the room will be used. It is very important. I tell my clients that if they don’t test, I am not responsible for any error. Colors shift with light and you’ll want a color that is precisely what you all planned.

2. Be sure that all the décor items are together at the same time. Each item bounces light and color around, changing the perceived colors of everything else in the room. Get them all together under the same lighting and see how you experience them.

3. Use the biggest paint sample you can find. Using a larger ‘swatch’ is very important because color changes depending on the amount of color you get into the room. Especially yellows—which are a ‘self-compounding color’ and the volume turns up exponentially with the more you get in the room. Recommended: take a poster board and a quart sample and paint two coats onto the board. Hold it around the room where you’ll be wanting to paint it and see how it changes.

4. Place samples next to the items that will be in the room. Colors change depending on what they are next to and a color next to a ‘white’ wall will not look the same as the new color next to the upholstery, window treatments or flooring.

S.Trask Vender promptly called and made appointment to come to home to take measurements for shades. Showed up exactly on time and on day promised. Took measurements and told me they would be ordered and should arrive in about 2 weeks. Called just one week after measurements were taken and said shades were ready to hang. Came out next day to hang them. They fit perfectly and look very nice. He cleaned up any mess from installation and disposed of my old shades. Was able to pay for balance with my master card which is a feature I always look for.

He made suggestions and was very patient with me while deciding fabrics/ design. He installed all of the products (blinds, shutters, and drapes) very well.
